So you didn't get a chance to attend the New York Fashion Week 2013? No problem! I have your nail art needs from the runway covered!
Introducing my version of the military manicure that was used on Prabal Gurung's models for his Autumn/Winter 2013 collection. Mr. Gurung teamed up with Sally Hansen for the nails to complement his collection which he describes as "empowerment, regiment, discipline, femininity"
The original nails used Sally Hansen Coat of Arms (gold) and Loden Green (olive toned green) for the Military Manicure. They apply a layer of the gold all over the nails first and then a layer of the green over the gold leaving a sliver of the gold peeping through in the middle. See the backstage review here.
So in my version of these Military nails, I used China Glaze Agro, two coats as the base colour. Next I applied gold acrylic paint from Palmer and handpainted on my slivers of gold on top of Agro. Here's a close up.
Tip: If hand painting on the slivers, use a stripping brush and short strokes to create the sharp outline of the "V", then fill it.
Alternatively, if you are not perfect with a brush, use tape to create a "V" shape and fill in with your paint.
Military Chic Nails, that is what I would call these! How are you inspired by fashion for your nail designs? Stay tuned for more fashion inspired nail art.
