I need to get the phone number to Sherlock Holmes please! It seems like every day another item from my nail supplies goes missing. Sometimes they return right back to the scene where there were last spotted or not at all. The case of the missing acetone, that’s what I need him to solve!
So while attempting my first try at water coloured nails, the main item needed, the acetone was nowhere to be found so I used methylated spirits instead. You want to start with a white or off-white shade as your base. I used two coats of China Glaze Moonlight. It was still sheer.
Next I applied a drop of Kleancolour Boogie nights (rich orange) onto one nail. Dip a brush into the methylated spirits and tap off the excess on a paper towel then apply onto the drop of orange polish, moving you brush around the entire nail so the colour gets deposited in other areas. It was at this time I wanted to give up since the methylated spirits and the Kleancolour polish was just not agreeing with each other and instead of getting diffused colour, I got specks of colour.
But I carried on instead trying the same method with two other brands of polish; China Glaze Secret peri-wink-le and OPI Pink Friday and these both seem to react well with the methylated spirits giving diffused colour.
You know how people discover things by accident? Well this maybe just my contribution to that circle of people. They did come out lovely anyway and reminded me that beauty is also art. Now please send me Sherlock Holmes number if you have it, I still need to locate the acetone to try this technique the right way!
Happy Water Colours!
