Handpicked NARS Mexican Rose makes me Blush with Gaiety

I was so excited to receive my first two items from NARS via the wonderful world that is Amazon. These two items are from the NARS Spring 2012 collection; meet NARS Mexican Rose Lip pencil and Gaiety Blush. Two words: Simple stunning! These two need to remain the star of this show…. I mean face. So I kept the eye-shadow simple, just some MAC Woodwinked and black liner/ mascara.
Mexican rose is a medium pink lipstick in a pencil form but glides on like a gloss packed with pigment. Can you see the sheen on this baby? I really didn’t feel like this was a lipstick on my lips. It’s very unique like a cross between lipstick and gloss, reminds me a lot of MAC sheen supreme lipsticks, just that it remained on the lips a bit longer and maybe not so shiny. The colour on first swipe is soft but you can add on more colour if you like, and I liked.
NARS Gaiety blush like the name suggests is cheerful. It’s a cool tone soft pink but I found I was still able to pull it off with my very warm skin tone. I just needed to apply a bit more to the apples of my cheeks. On its own it is pigmented, but not overly so and I could detect some shimmer in it.

I am extremely pleased with these two and plan to try out some more NARS items as my budget permits. If you asked me out of the two which one I love more, it would have to be the Gaiety Blush! You’re wondering why right? Well it was actually the Mexican rose lip pencil until it dawned on me that it requires sharpening since it is a pencil (duh!) but mostly because it stains really badly. I mean it’s a gorgeous colour and feels so good on the lips but after wearing for a full day, I took my bathe with nice warm water and a good face wash and the colour refused to budge. I eventually resorted to my Clinique Take the day off makeup remover and this removed most of the stain but not all. Of course I am going to wear Mexican Rose as much as I can but the effort required to remove, well is it worth it? You decide.
Do you love NARS? Any particular loves from them? Are you interested in Mexican Rose or Gaiety Blush?
Happy NARS!
XOXO
Naomi

  1. You created such a beautiful look where both items could be the center of attraction! I have only tried a couple blushes and a bronzer and lipstick. I really love their bronzer in Irresistablement. To be honest I was not interested in these two items but seeing how gorgeous they look on you I might have to check them out ;))

Revlon Sculpting Blush Palette in Pink

I have never been so disappointed in a Revlon product before… until now! Maybe I chose the wrong colour for my skin-tone but there are so many other things about this palette that makes me think I should have bought some more lip butters instead. Let’s start with what I do love about the palette. It’s simple black compact that has the same sleek look as the other Revlon photo-ready items. I find a highlighter, contour shade and blush in one palette is a great idea too. Having more blush colour in terms of quantity with smaller sections for the highlighter and contour makes perfect sense since I will use more of the blush anyway. The colours as they appear in the pan look perfectly coordinated to work with each other. You get a small brush with soft bristles in your kit to ensure you can just pop this in your bag and you’re off.  In the sunlight Now here is where it all goes downhill like Jack and Jill with their pail of water. Let’s start with the swatches which made me think twic

Marble Hearts: BCD Nail Art Challenge (Day 13)

Today's challenge utilizes the technique of dry water marbling to create your pattern. I'm doing a twist of it but doing a needle drag i.e using a needle or any fine point for just a smidgen of swirl to the colours used.
