Orly Holiday Soiree- Ingenue

I have found a new love in Orly with it sleek super handy gripper cap and big bottle size. The weekly trip to Wonderful World was in time for me to see the entire display of the Orly Holiday Soiree collection. The Orly‘Tis the Season (from their 2010 holiday collection) and Birds of a Feather collections are also out.
Orly costs $38TT for the18ml bottle so out of these three collections I choose only one called Ingenue from their Holiday Soiree collection. It’s a plumy purple color with gold sparkles and oh how they sparkle in the sunlight. So beautiful and reflective that it was difficult to photograph properly. I used two coats of polish but the intensity of the colour was still a bit sheer so maybe three would have been enough for an opaque finish. The formula was easy to work with and dried very quickly between coats. The bottle comes with a cute nail file tied around the bottle neck. I was so impressed by this colour as well as the Orly range of colours. The formula is just as goo…

MAC Glitter and Ice Collection

Why am I always late to get what I want from MAC’s million and one collections this year? AHHHHHH!!!!!! So I really wanted to try the Morning Frost paint pot from their Glitter and Ice collection but yes it was all sold out. Being limited edition means there is only the possibility of it being repromoted for me to get my hands on it or just try to find it online. Anyway ladies there are some gorgeous red lipsticks and other items still available and in the special white packaging for this collection. Hope you have more luck getting what you want from MAC’s Glitter and Ice collection.
Happy Shopping dolls! XOXO Naomi

Nail Polish Combo- Let’s Meet (Sinful Colors) for some Midtown Magic (China Glaze)

Preparation for any vacation should always include what to wear on your nails. While thinking about my bathing suits for my Barbados vacation I realized that 2 of them were animal prints so I decided to go with a safari theme nails. Yellow works well with browns. On Hands: Sinful Colors Professional“Let’s meet” 928 (Only $15TT at Wonderful World). Two coats of this smooth formula make for sunflower coloured nails.

On Feet: China Glaze “Midtown magic” 996 from their Fall Metro Collection 2011 ($35TTat Wonderful World). Two coats give this very dark dramatic chocolate colour with soft sparkles.
The two colours complimented each other beautifully and couldn’t look better on the white sands of Barbados’ Accra beach.

Maybe next time I’m in Barbados I’ll try a yellow and blue combo since these are the main colours in their National flag. XOXO Naomi

Simple Black Pumps from Steve Madden

I first discovered Steve Madden shoes when I was on vacation in Miami. My cousin took me into this exquisite store that took my breath away. I came out with none of his shoes in hand at that time but he certainly left a huge impression with me. Low and behold Steve Madden shoes revealed themselves to me locally at West Mall. I don’t even know the name of the store since I have renamed it the Steve Madden store. And yes besides the MAC store, this one is a must see for me on any visit to West Mall. I always go in and never buy since his shoes are a bit on the pricey side but a girl can look. However, I’m such a lucky girl that I have friends that pay attention and decided to get me these simple black open toe pumps for Christmas 2010. I’m guessing they were on sale but were probably around $600-700TT. Over the last year these pumps have been my BFF, go with me almost everywhere, never leave my side and always make me feel confident and beautiful. Did I mention tall too? Dolls, you can’…

I’m Off to Cairo with Coastal Scents Go Palette

I love travelling around the world and every year for my holiday I try to visit somewhere new. But unless I win the lottery, strike oil or find a rich big daddy to support my travelling habits I may never get to visit the magnificent Cairo in Egypt. But a girl can hope! So second to that comes the luxurious Coastal Scents Go Palette Cairo. If you have heard about Coastal Scents they are well known for their large palettes (think 88 colours minimum) but for a travelling girl like myself try fitting such a huge item into your already makeup ram-packed handbag!

Now the idea behind this palette is that the colours in it are more or less to represent the feel of the city. There are more of these designed with other cities in mind such as Sydney, Paris and Beijing. So I guess they felt that Cairo had dark and earthy jewel tones colours to bring out an Arabic look.

So this mini-palette is really ideal for me, fits into my bag with ease.It comes with 12 colours and is a mix of matte and shimmery…

Colour Me Purple with Wet N Wild Petal Pusher

So continuing on with my purple phase came the purchase of the Wet N Wild 8 colour palette called Petal Pusher. I have tried WnW products before and somewhere along the line they dropped off my radar. But they’re back! With a bang! I have to admit that I really have seen how this brand has grown and matured. They are producing beauty that is affordable. While I love the array of purple shades in this palette I have to admit that there is fallout galore especially with the glittery ones but that hasn’t really bothered me so much since this palette is so cute. The small size makes it ideal of travelling but the plastic packaging maybe a cause for breakage. So far so good for me though. I also love the concept of writing where each shadows go on the actual shadows since it makes it easy for a newbie (like myself) to know where to put them. Of course you can do as you please. The back of the palette also comes with instructions on how to use the different colours to achieve different look…

Hardcore Metals (Antique Gold, Copper, Graphite) with L.A. Girl Metallic Nail Polishes

I’ve fallen hard for metals! L.A.Girl Metal metallic nail polishes make that so easy to do. So shiny and bright, sparkly like a star in the dark midnight sky! Sounds poetic right. Well they are dreamy; the three colours anyway I managed to hijack from Wonderful World. At $15TT a bottle I can get two of these babies for the price of one China glaze (Side note: I still love me some China Glaze)

The first one up is the majestic Copper that sparkles in the light with its reddish orange tone. The oranges specks really show up in the sunlight. Love!

Next up is Graphite. In the initial pictures and in the bottle it shows up more silvery but two coats really show why its name is graphite. The silver specks show up now. It’s so rocker chic. And last the Antique Gold that is the star of the three. So far everyone who has seen my nails with this colour on wants to know what it is. So as the name applies it’s not a true gold and I guess the old flare makes it so interesting. Well even though the…

Learning Beauty Week 5- Practicing Pedicures & Doing Press-On Nails

Session 9: So speed round of doing pedicures. Ok so not really a speed round but practicing a full pedicure within 45 minutes. I barely made it but it turned out okay. Session 10:The start to the use of false nails now and I go into this session a bit uninterested since I have good natural nails and have always preferred them over anything not mine.{Opening up mind to new adventures}. So we are just doing press on nails where the tips of the nails are basically stuck onto your natural nails to give it length. Press-On Steps: 1.Prepare natural nail for receiving false nail. i.e. remove nail polish, file etc 2.Using Empress curve nails choose nails sizes that line up with the natural nail. Each false nail has a number in the inside of it so you can remember these for reference in the future. Tip of your natural nail has to line up with the inner scope under false nail. 3.Using nail glue, apply glue to inside part of nail and small amount also to tip of natural nail. 4.Apply false nail ont…

Black Opal and Color Essence at the T&T Business Expo 2011

Beautiful dolls, hoping you had a great weekend! As usual I couldn’t stay home and ventured to check out the Trinidad and Tobago Business Expo 2011 which is now in its second year running and hosted by the International Caribbean Business Fair. Although I am a big online shopper I really do love supporting the local businesses and I have been finding that many of the items I usually buy online are slowly making its way at affordable prices to our shores. Of course there were many booths with lots to see by my eyes zoned in on the beauty booths and for me the Black Opal booth screamed out for my attention. (Side note: I am wearing MAC’s Deliciously Forbidden Mattene Lipstick, LOVE!) Black Opal is a brand that I didn’t really pay much attention to growing up but many a friend kept raving about their stick foundation. The one stand out item for me at the booth was the Papaya body butter, the smell was so exotic! Their mineral foundation is also a new item. Black Opal products can be found…

Entering The Bright Side with Maybelline

Who wants to enter the Brightside with me? You know the Caribbean is known for its bright makeup which matches our climate and people. When I saw this pallet at Magical Makeup in Trincity Mall I was actually looking for a peach eye-shadow but the small cute palette and bright 8 colours begged to come home with me. How could I say no to that? All eight colours are shimmery or frosty, no matte colours. I did get some fall out and the light blue appeared a bit chalky but overall I loved this limited edition palette. The colours are buildable and the lime green is my favourite. Swatch time. Of course I know there is a Sacha Cosmetics palette with way brighter colours than these but for now these will work for me. Beside which they can very easily fit in my bag. How bright will you go? XOXO Naomi

Learning Beauty Week 4- Manicure with Nail Art & Basic Pedicure Steps

Session 7:So last week I learnt the steps to a basic manicure and this week we had to do all the steps within 45 minutes. Well let’s just say I barely made it! We included a bit of nail art to the end. You know us trini girls love fancy nails. I was taught an easy way to do the tips, no tape required. Just angle the brush with minimum nail polish starting from one free edge and moving inwards. Repeat from the other nail edge. You so need a steady hand for this. Worst case; simply add a sparkly nail colour between to hide rough nail tips. The even more difficult part is adding the “chicken foot” or “tree branches” to your design. I need more practice here. Just buy some false nails and practice, practice, practice. Not bad for my first try??? Session 8: This class is moving so quickly. Pedicure time today. I am both excited and nervous. So just like we did at session 6, we started off this session practicing how to meet and greet your client coming in for a pedicure. Rule number 1: Inspe…

The Caribbean Nail and Beauty Trade Show 2011

What did you guys do this weekend? Well this was my first time attending the Caribbean Nail and Beauty Trade show, but this is its third year in action. This event was held at the Centre of Excellence in Macoya and I found out about it through their facebook page. As the name suggests this event is all about nails, makeup, hair and anything beauty related. So right up my alley! I got a few girlfriends and we just had to check this out. What I love about an event like this is that it is centered on local suppliers and someone like me can be exposed to where to get things, new products and the latest trends. I felt though that there was way more booths related to nails that to the hair or cosmetics but that didn’t stop me from enjoying the event.
Speaking about nails, items on display were lots of additions for acrylics and ice nails, acrylic powders, the newer to the market gel nails and its system, nail polishes, nail art brushes and the list goes on. What interested me was the famous K…

E.L.F. Takeovers Trinidad

Those sneaky little elves with their huge array of cosmetics! They just slowly infiltrated our lives here in the sunny islands of the Caribbean. So while I had to purchase my items online a few months ago now I see them here with their welcomed takeover of our island. One by one they keep popping up, making beauty items more affordable for the beauty addicts like me. So on my stroll through Excellent Stores in Trincity Mall; there they were sitting all pretty and staring at me. No they were calling out my name. So far most of the ELF items available locally are from their US $1 line so that conversion would be at TT $6.4. However, most of these items sell here for TT$10 or more. If you consider shipping fees you would be about even if not cheaper than ordering online for these items. P.S. There is an ELF Trinidad Facebook group. Just to mention some of these items while so affordable may not work well for you so make sure and do your reviews before purchasing. Whether you spend one doll…

So Deliciously Forbidden with MAC Posh Paradise Mattene Lipstick

What did you do this weekend? Well I took a rather impromptu visit to West Mall and of course I never regret such trips. For me a trip to the MAC store is a must for me (along with a Burger King stop!). Now while I feel like I already live in a paradise, MAC’s Posh Paradise collection is quite impressive! I love the array of vibrant rich colours of the lipsticks, nail polishes and paint pots.
Trying to stick to my budget I only allowed myself one piece and got a Mattene lipstick called Deliciously Forbidden. How do they come up with these names? Either way I say it is an accurate description of this colour. I love the sleek black packaging and velvet feel of the lipstick tube. This lipstick has a semi-matte finish and is indeed more moisturizing than a normal matte lipstick. But besides that the colour is absolutely stunning! Take a look. I would describe this colour as a midtone berry pink and I can see myself wearing this to work. Actually that’s what I did and I got many a compliment…
